Gear Review: EZFX Jib

A jib or crane can be used to increase your production value substantially. The EZFX jib is one of the most portable and easiest little jibs to work with.  You’ll want to watch this video if you have any questions about setting it up.

Once set up, you’ll be able to achieve ‘booming’ or ‘craning’ or ‘vertical’ shots easily. The counterweights on the back (which will be different for every camera type depending on their weight) makes it to where a toddler could move the heaviest of rigs.

At Seek First Productions, we like to use the EZFX jib not just for specific shots, but for entire music sequences.  Check out this musical scene we filmed completely on the jib at canted angles for example. Below are some shots of the EZFX jib in use for a few shoots we did in Athens, GA even though we hail from Nashville, TN.

EZFX Jib In Use 1

The jib can be controlled from the front or back. When controlling from the front, we recommend you be tall or have a ladder (ask us to rent one of these).

EZFX Jib In Use 2

You will want a large pair of sticks (tripod). Likewise, you’ll want two people to move the jib once it is set up, unless you pop it on a Cinedolly.
